Elpida to Begin New DRAM Chip Volume Production in May 2011

Elpida announced on April 27, 2011 that the company will mass produce advanced DRAM (Dynamic Random Access Memory) chips using 30nm process technology in May this year, according to the Nikkei. It is reported that the DRAM chips will be used for PCs. The new DRAM chips are projected to begin volume production at Elpida's factory located in Hiroshima Prefecture, western Japan and at the company's subsidiary factory in Taiwan. It is reported that the new DRAM chips are equipped with more capacity per chip and consumes less power than the 40nm chips. Elpida plans to mass produce DRAM chips for Smartphones and tablet PCs using the 30nm process technology in June this year.
